About Institution

K. J. Somaiya Polytechnic, an Autonomous Institute, established in 1963, conducts programmes in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering and Industrial Electronics with grant-in-aid from Maharashtra Government. We also conduct Diploma Programme in Computer Engineering which is an unaided programme. We have part time diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Industrial Electronics under continuing education programme.

Our all programmes are recognized by All India Council for Technical Education & equivalent to the diploma awarded by Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education. Our Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering programmes have been accredited for 5 years while Industrial Electronics has been accredited for 3 years by the National Board of Accreditation – AICTE and the programme offered by the institute again remains first in Mumbai Zone to receive such status till date. The polytechnic is managed by a Governing Body and has representatives from Government of India, Directorate of Technical Education, Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education & the parent Somaiya Trust.

The institute was conferred Academic Autonomy in the year 1994 , that gave us independence in designing our own curriculum in accordance with changing Technological Scenario. The curriculum designing also takes into consideration the latest information in the field of technology to be added and is approved by the Board of Studies that comprises of eminent persons both from Industry and Institute. To improve the effectiveness of technical education we have good Industry Institute Interaction for the training and placement, Industrial Visits, Guest Lectures & technical seminars and Entrepreneurship Development Cell.
