CBSE has taken an initiative to train teachers to be gender sensitive and closely monitor for any signs of child abuse. Over 23 modules have been prepared for the trainers under the Continuous Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE) scheme where the trainers will give an insight of the growing up issues, managing emotions, gender, social and other issues of discrimination.

With increasing complaints of child abuse, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) announced to take new measures to make premises of all its affiliated schools safer for the students. The schools will install CCTV cameras, form committees and train teachers to supervise and monitor any misconduct by faculty or staff.

Rama Sharma, public relations officer, CBSE said that the teachers, management and all employees of the institutions need to be aware about the provisions of the Act, some of which entails them to be vigilant and report instances of child abuse, as in sections 19(I) and 21. The schools will be provided with suggestion boxes so that the students can make complaints and give their own suggestions. The committee will help in taking immediate action on the cases of child abuse, she added.

The principals from different schools believe that these measures will be safer and easier to adopt for the students and the school authorities. Since the role of the school has been clearly defined, we will be able to follow them properly. Avnita Bir, principal, RN Podar International School, Santacruz said, lot of these are already in place in our school.
