The Indian Institute of Tourism and Travel Management (IITTM), an autonomous institution under the Ministry of Tourism, has been chosen to offer a full-fledged MBA course in Tourism, in partnership with the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU). An MoU to this effect was signed between IITTM and  IGNTU (which comes under the HRD Ministry) in Delhi recently.

“The course will open up a candidate’s job prospects in travel agencies, hotels, airlines, transport and cargo companies, and even government tourism departments,” said an official from the Tourism Ministry. Next in line is the setting up of a National Tourism University in Noida, which happens to be the parliamentary constituency of Tourism and Culture Minister, Mahesh Sharma.

The IITTM is one of the premier institutes in India offering education, training, research and consultancy in the fields of tourism and travel. Established in Delhi in 1983, it now has five campuses – at Gwalior, Noida, Bhubneshwar, Nellor and Goa where post-graduate diploma courses in Tourism, Leisure, International Business and Cargo are taught. The new MBA (Tourism) programme will replace the earlier PGDM course. The course commencement dates and fee structure are still being finalised, said the ministry official.
