With the view to give better grades for universities and colleges, The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) headquartered at Bangalore has revised its grading system and made accreditation for universities with higher education tougher than before.

All institutions who wish to receive the accreditation will have to submit the Annual Quality Assurance Report (AQAR) from September 16. The Executive Committee of the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) has also said that the institutions accredited by will also have to compulsorily have functional Internal Quality Assurance Cells (IQAC), terming it a quality sustenance measure.

As per the data available for NAAC, under second cycle there are 138 universities and 2,474 colleges which have been accredited and these numbers are 32 universities and 237 colleges for the third cycle. All cycles are for five-year period. Apart from issuing these guidelines to the colleges the NAAC's executive committee has also directed the institutions to upload minutes of the meetings of the Internal Quality Assurance Cells (IQAC) and decisions made to the institutions website.
