School curriculum to include chapters on disability

Prakash Javadekar, Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister said that in order to increase awareness and sensitise the youth about disabilities, the school curriculum would include chapters disability soon. A bikers rally - The Ride for Accessibility has been organized to spread awareness about universal accessibility for the differently-abled. At the rally, Javadekar said educational institutes would be made accessible to the disabled in a phased manner.

The motor bike rally was organised as part of a campaign run by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE) to spread awareness about the issue. It was flagged off from India Gate by Minister of SJE - Thaawar Chand Gehlot. Leading biker groups from the city including "Bikers for Good", "Bajaj Avenger Club", "We're one Ride" and "Save the Quest participated in the rally. Over 500 school and college students, cyclists and morning walkers joined the flagging off of the "Roaring wheels" festival.

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities - Divyangjan is running an Accessible India Campaign - Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan for creating universal accessibility in built environment, public transportation and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) eco-system for the differently-abled persons.

The campaign was initially launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on December 3 last year on the occasion of the International Day for Persons with Disabilities. Thaawar Chand Gehlot highlighted the objectives of Sugamya Bharat Abhiyan and urged citizens to come forward to support the campaign.

Bollywood actor Vivek Oberoi, ambassador of the Accessible India Campaign, praised the indomitable spirit of persons with disabilities. The ministry is making efforts to make the campaign a mass movement by involving citizens and sensitizing the society towards disability and the need for accessibility.
