About Institution

Sikkim Govt. College, Tadong was established in September 1977 by an Act of State Legislature. The campus is spread over 22 acres in Tadong , 5 kms from Gangtok, the Capital of Sikkim and has good road connectivity with different districts of Sikkim and also with the neighboring state of West Bengal. The College is affiliated to Sikkim University and is governed by Directorate of Higher Education, Human Resource Development Department, Government of Sikkim. Sikkim has witnessed remarkable growth in higher education sector since 1977 and the College has strived to cater to the growing need of quality education in the state. The College follows intensive semester system and Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) having an up-to-date, inter-disciplinary and interactive course structure.Sikkim Government College upholds its mission of emancipating our youth through value-based holistic higher education. The College offers 19 UG courses and 5 PG courses and is affiliated to Sikkim University. The curriculum is regularly updated by the University with the participation of faculty members of each department of the College.

Vision

The College aspires to be converted into a State University as envisaged by Government of Sikkim. The process has been initiated with the introduction of PG programmes in five subjects from the current academic session 2015-16. Introduction of PG programmes in Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Commerce and Statistics is in the planning stage. Our vision is to have transformational impact on students inculcating qualities of competence, excellence and ethical character while meeting employment and knowledge aspirations locally.

To provide instructional and research facilities in such branches of learning as it may deem fit and to instill scientific zeal and develop skilled human resource.To sensitize students to the improvement of the social and economic concerns,intellectual, academic and cultural developments, human rights gender & environmental issues.To facilitate young learners with opportunities to hone their ethics and leadership potential.
