Education system of the country depends on the quality of education provided to students, empowerment of teachers and effective management of resources by education institutions, said Dr Yaj Medury, vice-chancellor designate, Bennett University while delivering the special address at National Summit on Quality in Education.

The two-day summit was organized by the CII Institute of Quality in Bangalore recently, which necessitate a thorough and fresh look at empowerment of teachers.

Dr Medury said that 21st century brings new challenges for teachers in the form of student engagement. Students are looking at teaching institutions as more than a source of diplomas or degrees and teachers are seen as a source for active mentoring, which is a need and an expectation in times of change.

Over 400 delegates participated in the summit. Principals, teachers and lecturers from various schools and colleges across the country were present during the occasion.

About 50 reputed national and international speakers delivered speech on effective student engagement strategies, innovative approaches, and continuous professional development of teachers. Case studies of inspirational teachers were also presented.

Dwelling upon some of the imperatives of the higher education sector Yaj Medury of Bennett University also highlighted, "The old age classroom teaching models are not adequate in this complex milieu of plentiful information, unique students' needs and an increasingly complex corporate world. Considering this, we at Bennett University are undergoing the process of metamorphosis to provide the right ecosystem and support to develop an all-round personality of the student. Special attention is being paid to develop a high calibre, research driven faculty, a well-rounded industry-centric curriculum and global academic partnerships to make students future-ready rather than have him or her merely 'pass out'".

Other eminent educationists present at the summit were Dr Revathi Reddy, regional director, NCTE, who shared with the audience the progressive measures taken by the NCTE to strengthen the Teacher Education system in the country.
