Jill Farrant, professor of molecular and cell biology at the University of Cape Town, South Africa, is a leading expert on resurrection plants, which 'come back to life' from a desiccated, seemingly dead state when they are rehydrated.She won L'Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Award Laureate  in 2012 for the elucidation of mechanisms by which plants overcome drought conditions.
