G. Thilakavathi is an Indian police officer and a writer who has penned many novels in Tamil language. She was born in Dharmapuri district and after completing her schooling she joined the Auxilium College at Vellore. He completed her higher studies at Stella Maris College at Chennai. In 1976 she became the first woman from Tamil Nadu to become an officer in Indian Police Service. She became the Additional Director General of Police in 2007. She has also served as the Director of Vigilance and the Inspector General of Police-Headquarters. She was then promoted to Director General of Police. She is serving as the chairperson of the Uniformed Services Recruitment Board. She is well known writer in Tamil language. Her first short story was published in Dinakaran in 1987. She has written more than three hundred short stories and many novels and poems. She won the Best Short Story Prize for 1988-89 from the Government of Tamil Nadu for her stories Theiyumo Sooriyan and Arasigal Aaluvathillai.

Her novel Pathini Penn written in 1983 was made into a film. Her works Vaarthai Thavari Vittai, Arasigal Aaluvathillai and Muppathu Kodi Mugangal were adapted for television programs. She has also translated many short stories and novels including Nizhal Kodungal, Uthiram Ilaigalin Oosai, Govarthan Ram, etc. Some of her novels include Kalmaram, Vaarthai Thavari Vittai, Muppathu Kodi Mugangal, Nalai Enathu Rajangam, Pathini Penn, Kanavai Soodiya Natchathiram, Oru Aathamavin Diary – Sila Varangal, Unakagavaa Naan, Alai Puralum Karayoram, etc. She received Sahitya Akademi Award for Tamil for her novel Kalmaram.
