Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Samity(BJGVS) is the leading Non Govt. and non profit socio scientific Organisation of the State of Odisha having innovative approach for sustainable development of the society especially through development of scientific temper. BJGVS established in the year 1992 under the societies Registration act(No. XXI of 1860) of Odisha .Founder Chairman of BJGVS was Dr.(Prof.) Tapas Kabi,Ex Vice Chancellor of Sambalpur University.Dr.P.C.Rout,Former Director of Elementary Education Dept. Of School and Mass Education was the one of the member of this organisation along with eminent Educationists and scientists of Odisha.They organised the Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Jatha of Department of Science and Technology,Govt. Of India in the Year 1992 in Odisha,which was organised in 400 Districts of Country.In this campaign awareness was generated in 500 villages of each District of Odisha on Education,Health,Housing,superstition and water with the help of Street Play,Community interaction,Rally,village and Panchayat level Meetings etc.
Eminent scientist,Educationist and social activist Dr. Ransing Nirmalendu Ray was the State Co-ordinator of this BJGVJ Campaign. At present he is the Chairman of BJGVS.He is the only Indian to receive three U.G.C Fellowship in three different discipline.He received First UGC Fellowship in Physics from Indian Institute of Science,Bangalore for his Ph.D Degree.In the second UGC Fellowship he was working in the remote Tribal Districts of Odisha in more than 800 villages for the success of Total Literacy Campaign of MHRD ,Govt. Of India.In the third UGC Fellowship he worked in different parts of country in Lokshala campaign under the leadership of Prof. Yashpal and Prof. Anil Sadgopal.He was the recipient of NCSTC Award,Dept. Of Science &Technology,Govt.of india for the popularisation of science among the Children in India.
The organisation has been established for various sensitizing issues related to socio economic and scientific aspects for the fulfilment of the problems of the people through various action based outreach programmes
The organisation is a permanent member of NCSTC-Network and working as State Coordinator of National Children’s Science Congress ( A programme of Rastrya Vigyan Evam Prodyogiki Sanchar Parishad(RVPSP), Department of Science and Technology, Govt. Of India, New Delhi) and is the nodal agency for science communication and science popularisation for the state of Odisha
