AMET is located on the beautiful shore of Bay of Bengal at Kanathur, just an hour’s drive from Chennai city. It utilizes a semester-based academic calendar and is a state of the art establishment totally dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge and training to cadets and students. AMET is established as a private maritime institute through Smt.Pattammal Educational and Charitable Trust with just 14 cadets in 1993. AMET has, through its uncompromising strides of excellence and ambitious zeal to serve the students and nation, transformed into the first university for maritime education in India under AMET Trust. (AMET) was granted the deemed to be University status by the UGC on 21st August 2007 under the “de-novo” category with maritime education as emerging field with great potential.
