West Bengal State University, Kolkata was established through an Act of the legislative assembly enacted by the West Bengal Act XXVIII of 2007. It started functioning from the academic session 2008-09. In 2008 all colleges in the region, formerly affiliated to Calcutta University, were transferred to this University. West Bengal State University was established to produce human resource capable of meeting scientific, technological and social challenges of modern world. Keeping in view the educational needs of the students, integrated courses are been offered up to PhD level. The University is also preparing to launch vocational programs for its students. It is promoting cluster concept in its affiliated colleges. The University is working hard to develop infrastructural facilities for its students.
