Established On : 1963
The history of cricket will be incomplete without associating the game with the Royal Selangor Club being the oldest club in Malaysia. t was founded in 1884 by a group of British planters and it has been the venue for almost all the important games in Malaysia ever since, including one occasion in 1927, when Malaya beat Australia by 39 runs.
The Malaysian Cricket Association (MCA) was established in 1963 and now has 14 state affiliates and 2 associate members.
Malaysia gained associate membership of the International Cricket Council (ICC) in 1967, and played in the first ICC Trophy in 1979. They have appeared in every ICC Trophy since, with the exception of the 2005 tournament, for which they did not qualify. Malaysia was privileged to host the1997 tournament, but finished in a disappointing 16th place.
Malaysia has been member of the Asian Cricket Association (ACC) since its incorporation in 1983 and has competed in every ACC Trophy. Malaysia has hosted many ACC tournaments which have included the senior and junior levels as well as the women's tournaments.
In the 2010 Asian Cricket Council (ACC) ranking excluding the Test playing Nations (India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh), Malaysia was placed third behind Nepal and Hong Kong. The ranking is based on the senior, U-19 and U-16 teams' performance in the ACC Trophy tournaments over a period of two years. The MCA is making concerted efforts to climb to the top of the ladder in Asia among the non-Test playing teams.
MCA is also a member of the Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM), the National Olympic Council for Malaysia and work closely with them in the development of cricket in our country.
Malaysia is to date, the only country to feature cricket as part of the Commonwealth Games that took place in 1998.
