Abhinav Bindra is an Indian sportsman who takes part in shooting competitions. He is the current World and Olympic champion in the 10m Air Rifle event. He is the first Indian to win an individual gold medal in Olympics since 1980. At present he is living in Zirakpur in Mohali in Punjab. He belongs to a wealthy Punjabi Sikh Khatri family. His father is Dr. Manjit Singh. Dr. Amit Bhattacharjee is his mental coach. He has an indoor shooting range installed at his house. He was the youngest Indian that participated in the 2000 Olympic Games. His coach is Gabriele Buhlmann from Switzerland. He got 590 points in the 2000 Olympics with 11th place in the qualification round.
He participated in the 1998 Commonwealth Games and won a Bronze medal in the 2001 Munich World Cup and this was a new junior world record with 597/600. He won six gold medals in different international meets in 2001. In 2001, he received Arjuna Award and Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna ward. He won Gold in the pairs event in 2002 Commonwealth games held in Manchester. In the individual event he won silver medal.
