Jeev Milkha Singh is the highest ranked Indian professional golf player. Singh was born in Chandigarh in the year 1971. He was born to Indian Olympic athlete Milkha Singh and his wife Nirmal Kaur, former captain of the Indian women's volleyball team. He completed graduation in business and international studies in 1996 from US. His professional career as a golfer began in the year 1993. He won Southern Oklahoma State Open the same year, marking his successful entry to Indian Golf sport. From there on, he had a shining career throughout 1990’s. He is the son of legendary Indian athlete, Milkha Singh whose biopic movie, Bhag Milkha Bhag was made in Bollywood in 2013. Jeev is the first Indian golf player to join the European Tour. He joined in the year 1998. Only one golf player has been able to replicate this achievement was Jyoti Randhawa. In his professional career he is the most successful Indian player in European tours, winning four times. He is also the first Indian player to reach the top 100 World Players and he achieved it in the year 2006. He owns 20 Professional wins, one Amateur win, 6 Asian Tour wins, 4 Japan Golf Tour wins and 7 other wins. He played 24 events on the European Tour till now. He has been nominated for the maiden Player of the Decade award in March 2014. This title has been created by the Asian Tour to celebrate its 10th season in 2013.
When he finished 7th at European Tour qualifying school in 1997, he became the first Indian golfer to achieve this recognition. He was honoured with Arjuna Award in 1999, only the third golfer to receive this honour. Till 2006, Indian golf lovers a shining career of Singh. In 2008 Singh achieved the highest ranking for an Indian in any major event at the 2008 PGA Championship in Oakland Hills. He was honoured with Padma Shri in 2007.
