Joydeep Karmakar is an Indian shooter. He became a Junior National Champion in his first Nationals in 1994. Joydeep was born on 17th July 1979 in Kolkata in West Bengal. He got a score of 595 and was qualified for the final round and in the finals he competed with eight other shooters. He could score 51.6 and ended up in the fourth place and got 7th place overall. He was just 1.9 points behind Rajmond Debevec who won the bronze medal. Joydeep is a recipient of Arjuna Award in the year 2012. Earlier he had participated in 2010 ISSF World Cup, Sydney and won a silver medal with an Asian Record score of 599/600. He is still the only silver medalist in World Cup in Prone event from India. His National Record Scores of 594/600, 595, 598 & 599 from 2005 to 2012 was unique as Joydeep only bettere his own record. Apart from more than 50 National Medals, he also won Individual Australian Open Cup , Commonwealth Championships Pairs Gold and SAF double Gold. In Domestic competitions he held the Kumar Surendra Singh record of 597/600 in Prone. Currently he has set up a Shooting Academy in Kolkata named "Joydeep Karmakar Shooting Academy" in Salt Lake region of Kolkata, where he with other International shooters are training new comers to the nuances of Rifle Shooting.
