Soma Biswas is an athlete who lives in Kolkata, India and who specialises in the heptathlon. She rose to fame when she won the silver medal in 2002 Asian Games in Busan, South Korea. She won another silver medal at the 2006 Asian Games in Doha. She managed to win the 110m hurdles, the 200m and the 800m during that heptathlon. Biswas worked with Kuntal Rai and several foreign coaches. She was born on May 16, 1978 in Ranaghat, West Bengal. She excelled in the 1996 state meet, winning the first position in Heptathlon and from then onwards there was no looking back for her. She has won medals for the country in various championships like the Afro-Asian Games, SAF Games and the Asian Games. She and J.J. Shobha are two of the most potential athletes of the country in the Heptathlon event. She was one of the recipients of the prestigious Arjuna Award for Athletics in 2003.
