Muqtida Hasan Nida Fazli known as Nida Fazli was an Indian Hindi and Urdu poet. He was born on 12 October 1938 in Gwalior. Fazli had an elaborated career stretching for nearly four decades of public life. Initially he began writing for entertainment magazine Blitz. Impressed by his use of colloquial language and elegant, yet understandable words several directors approached him to compose lyrics for their upcoming projects. Some of his famous mainstream writings include: ‘Duniya jise kehte hain jaadu kaa Khilona’, ‘Aa bhi jaa’, ‘Tu is tarah se meri zindagi mein’ and ‘Hosh waalon ko khabar Kya’. As a poet, Fazli was inspired by the expression of Mirza and Ghalib and the writing style of Meera and Kabir. He also imbibed western influences by carefully scrutinizing the works of Gogol, Anton Chekhov and Takasaki.
Nida Fazli has received various awards including Khusro Award, Best Poetry Award from Maharashtra Urdu Academy, Hindi Urdu Sangam Award and Sahitya Akademi Award in 1998. In order to make a living, Fazli moved to Bombay in the year of 1964. His poetic writing was much appreciated by filmmakers and scriptwriters and therefore, he started being invited to mushairas and all kinds of poetry recitations. He started getting famous for his colloquial style of writing in Hindi and Urdu language. He has written songs for movies like Sur, Aap Toh Aise Na The, Sarfarosh, Gudiya, Iss Raat Ki Subah Nahi, etc. He has been contributing his critical essays to BBC Hindi on the topics of literature and contemporary issues.
