Prathibha Prahlad is a renowned Bharata Natyam dancer. She has given her in contemporary dance history too. The telegraph department and the Indian Postal Department have released Indian postal stamps of Rs 5/- as an honor to her work in the arts. She was born on 29 January 1962 in Mysore. Her contribution goes much beyond her own trail- blazing dance career which has taken her to prestigious platforms all over the world. A cultural visionary, besides being a star performer of Bharatanatyam, her work the field of arts is profound and unparalleled in contemporary dance history. Starting her performance career at the age of 6, she was hailed a star before she turned 20. Prathibha Prahlad has had the honour of performing for the United Nations in Bangkok in 1989 and in New York in 1995. She had the distinction of being the only Indian dancer invited to perform in the Manila International Dance Festival, Philippines in 1991, the Okayama International Dance Festival, Japan in 1993, for the opening of the India - Dancing to the Flute Festival, Sydney in 1997, the Alte Oper, Frankfurt in 1997. In 2016, She received the Padma Shri Award.
