S.S. Rajamouli is an Indian film screenwriter, director and action choreographer who works in Telugu cinema. He was introduced as a director by his guru K. Raghavendra Rao and has also directed tele-serials under his guidance. He has first directed the super hit film Student No. 1 with Jr. Ntr in a lead role. Rajamouli is known for directing blockbuster films like Magadheera and Eega both of which he won the National Film Award for Best Special Effects. He was born in Raichur of Karnataka. He studied up to Class IV at Kovvur and continued his education till Intermediate at Eluru. Moreover his father and brother are in the film industry. So, he joined as an assistant with Editor Kotagiri Venkateswara Rao for some time. Later, he worked for some days in AVM recording theatre. After that, he joined his father as an assistant with his father S Vijayendra Prasad afor about six years. During that time, Rajamouli used to narrate his stories to several directors.
In 2015, The first part of the epic historical fiction, Baahubali: The Beginning became the highest grossing Indian film within India, and became the third highest grossing Indian film globally. It became the first South Indian film to gross over 600 crore (US$89 million) worldwide and the first non-Hindi film to gross over 100 crore (US$15 million) in the dubbed Hindi version. It is also the highest grossing Telugu film of all time. In 2016, He was selected to be honored with the Padma Shri, India's fourth highest civilian honor for his contributions towards the field of Art.
