Bishop Thorp College affiliated to the Bharathiar University in 1984 – under the C.S.I Trichy- Tanjore Diocese. Thus "Bishop Thorp College" (Co-Education) Emerged as the "First Self-Financing College" in Tamil Nadu.

The College Motto is "To Serve and not to be Served". It caters the educational needs of the poor and downtrodden sector for the past 29 years with very low fees. In the Current Educational Scenario, the College views Education as a service to mankind. The college does not collect any donation or Capitation fee but only very low fees based on merit and financial condition of the Students. The College concentrates on displine, spiritual nourishment and all round development of the students.
