Inorganic substances are being used for both traditional and medicinal purposes since primitive times. Therapeutic indications of gold, silver, copper, stibnite, etc., are mentioned in the Atharba Veda, though not in details but indicative of their uses in medicinal purposes. The author in this work has described the scope of reverse pharmacology is to understand the mechanisms of action at multiple levels of biology and to optimize safety, efficacy and acceptability of the Ayurvedic medicines based on relevant science. In this approach as the candidate travels a reverse path from clinics to laboratory rather than the conventional laboratory to clinics. Here the drugs have been trialed through Phase I and Phase II study, followed by the paraclinical studies, safety studies and the large scale trials.
