Situated in the sylvan setting of forest , hills & mango groves, Dhenkanal College is the Premier College in the District Of dhnkanal. The college was established in 1959 by the efforts and sacrifice of some local enthusiasts with only pre-University arts class and functioned under private management in vinod Bhavan , a small building in the town . two Years laters 55 acres on the Cuttack – Sambalpur National Highway with Plenty of Shadowy Mango trees within & natural protection by green green pani ohala hills behind . Here it functioned in a temporatory accommodation till 1963, when a permanent structure of a one stoey building was erected & the three Faculties of Arts, Commerce & Science were opened . the temporatory accommodation was converted to a hostel . Te management of the college was taken over by a government of orissa with effort from 1st February 1967 & extension . of the building providing 24 rooms and 4 lecture-theaters was completed in 1977. the present accommodation of the college provides for 80 rooms & 6 lecture theaters.
Starting with only 64 students & 7 teachers the college has risen through the years to a strength of 2586 student in 22 classes & 101 teachers, besides higher secondary & degree Classes for pass and honors in three faculties ,the college provides teaching of post graduate Courses in history, Commerce & Botany., the college is affiliated to council of higher Secondary Education & Utkal University. Vocational Junior College , Joint venture computer Education and IGNOU Study Center function inside the College campus.
