Government Engineering College, Raichur started in the year 2007, is one among the prestigious institutions run by Government of Karnataka. It is the most accessible institute to the relatively weaker populace in Hyderabad- Karnataka region and the only Government Engineering College in the backward district of Raichur. The institute is located at Yeramarus which is 10 Kilometers away from Raichur city, and is well connected by a network of roads and Rail.The college is affiliated to Visvesvaraya Technological University, Belgaum and it offers B.E. degree courses in Electronics & Communication, Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering. The admission to the institution is through common entrance examination conducted by Karnataka Examination Authority, Government of Karnataka. More than 70% of the students of the institution belong to backward (SC/ST/OBC) categories and majority of them hail from economically weaker sections from rural area. GEC Raichur takes a lead role in promoting network programmes with other educational and research organizations in and around the District. The institution is also involved in social intervention activities by assisting local bodies in technical matters related to planning and execution of their schemes.
