Government Law College Chengalpattu college was started during the academic year 2003 – 2004 and functioned in a rented building nearby Rattinam Kinaru, G.S.T. Road, Chengalpattu. In order to remove the difficulties faced by this college, the Government allotted 10 acres of land which is quite opposite to the NGGO Nagar, Chengalpattu where the college was permitted to have pucca building with all the facilities such as Specious seminar Hall, Moot Court Hall, Open Air Auditorium, NSS and Sports Rooms, Rest Rooms for Girls and Boys, Office and Staff Rooms, ROS Water Plant facilities etc., Prof. K.K. Janardhanam, was appointed as special officer to look after this college. Actually this college was started as a unit college of the Tamilnadu Dr. Ambedkar Law University which was a self –financing one. On the request of the students, parents and other public spirited persons, the government of Tamilnadu converted it as Government Law College through a G.O Ms. No.299 Law (LS) department, dated on 5th December, 2006 with affordable fee structure on par with other government law colleges in this state. This is the sixth law college after Chennai, Madurai (1974 75), Coimbatore , Thiruchirappalli (1978 – 80), Tirunelveli (1996 – 97), and the last one is Vellore (2007 – 08). So far this college has been adorned by multy faceted personalities, skilful and versatile principals since its inception till date viz., Prof.K.K. Janardhanam, Prof.S. Narayana Perumal, Prof.R. Srinivasan, Prof.D.Gopal, Prof. N. Murugavel, Prof.M. Gajendiran, Prof.M. Pitchai and now Prof.Dr. K. Murugadoss from 22.08.2012 onwards.
