Chintamani is a commercial town in Chikkaballapur District. A composite and co-educational college was established at Chintamani in the year 1965 by late Sri M.C. Anjaneya Reddy the then MLC and Chintamani Town Municipal President. This place is surrounded by several socio-economically and educationally backward villages.
The first municipal college in the entire state of Karnataka was administered by the Town Municipal Council until 1986 in the name of “Municipal First Grade College” under the guidance and supervision of the then Municipal President who acted as the secretary of the Governing Council. The college was taken over by the Government of Karnataka on 13-10-1986 vide G.O.No. ED/167/UPI/86 dated 01-10-1986.
As there was an unmanageable increase of students, the college was bifurcated into two:1.Govt. College for Boys and 2. Govt. College for Women in the year 2001. The Govt. College for Women started functioning separately under the administration of the Government First Grade College, Chintamani. During the academic year 2001-2002 it became independent and started functioning under the control of a regular Principal.
