Helen Keller Institute for Deaf & Deafblind (HKIDB) is a premier institute for the education, training and rehabilitation of the Deaf and Deafblind in India and the rest of South East Asia. Deafblindness is a unique disability that affects a person's vision, hearing and speech.
HKIDB is recognized by the State and Central government and many international organizations as a pioneering institute for the development of children with disabilities, especially Deafblindness. It has helped many NGOs in starting services for Deafblind in India & other countries in Asia like Singapore and Malaysia.
Areas of Work:
•Early intervention and outreach programme (0 – 10 years)
•School for Deaf (from kindergarten till Std X)
•School for Deafblind (4 – 17 years)
•Vocational Training and Rehabilitation
•Diploma in Special Education (Deafblindness) – 2 years’ course recognized by the Rehabilitation Council of India
HKIDB is a registered NGO under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. All donations to it are exempt under Section 80-G of the Income Tax Act, 1961.
No one is incapable of being taught and no one can do without education. It is the fundamental birthright of every child to be loved and educated.
To be a pioneer NGO working in India for the betterment of children and youth who are Deaf, Deafblind and with additional disabilities by providing them with unconditional love, care and guidance and equipping them with education and training to lead a dignified life.
•2014 – Vision Foundation presented the Global Visionary Award to the Institute for its exemplary services in education and rehabilitation of Deaf and Deafblind persons
•2013 – All India Women's Education Fund Association (AIWEFA) presented Nina Sibal Memorial Award to the Institute for its dedicated work towards rehabilitation of blind and Deafblind persons
•December 2007 - National Award for the Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in public recognition of the Institute's outstanding performance
