Indira Priyadarshini Govt. Degree College for Women, Nampally, Hyderabad,is a pioneering institution catering to the needs of the first Generation students of Muslim Minority girls and also, Sc, ST students, belonging to the lowest socio-economic strata of society. This college is doing yeoman service to provide socially and economically backward class girls with the lowest level of literacy to empower them with communication and technical skills for an effective survival in modern competitive world.The college was established in the year 1981 with Smt.Hymavathi as the first principal. The humble beginning to this illustrious centre of learning was made by a generous hearted princess belonging to Nizam family, who donated 11 acres of land in the vicinity of the Nampally Railway Station and illuminated the dark lives of hundred of poor girls to lead them from "Ignorance to Knowledge". Out of the 11 acres of the donated land, offices of the Board of Intermediate Education, The Director of Collegiate Education and Chenetha Bhavan share 4 acres. The remaining 7 acres of land is shared by Education Institutions like Govt. High School, Govt. Jr. College and Indira Priyadarshini Govt. Degree College for Women and P.G. college. The campus accommodates classes from the K.G. to P.G. In 1981, on establishment of this college, it had no building of its own and was accommodated along with the Jr. College in an old dilapidated building ravaged by nature and time. The foundation stone of the new building was laid by the then honorable Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh on 7-04-1995 and a substantial help of Rs. 95 lakhs was contributed by Sri. M.M. Hasim, Member of Parliament from M.P. Lads funds.
