Nikolay Gavrilovich Slavyanov (1854–1897) was a Russian inventor who in 1888 introduced arc welding with consumable metal electrodes, or shielded metal arc welding, the second historical arc welding method after carbon arc welding invented earlier by Nikolay Benardos.
Nikolay Gavrilovich Slavyanov's house museum, the world famous scientist, the talented engineer and the inventor of shielded metal arc welding, was open in Perm on September 14, 1988. The museum is located in the house built on the project of the scientist and being now an architectural monument of the 19th century. Here exactly Nikolay Slavyanov lived with the family and worked. There are static exhibitions in the museum devoted to N. G. Slavyanov, and also to a history of the city and way of life of the end of the 19th century.
