The Government of Tamilnadu have also permitted the Institute of Road Transport to start Polytechnics at three places viz.,Chromepet in Chennai, Bargur and Tirunelveliand admit the students from the academic year 1992-93. All the three Polytechnics are functioning in their own premises from the academic year 1994-95.
The Institute has constructed a Main building and five workshop sheds at each Polytechnic Colleges to locate laboratories, workshops and classrooms in order to satisfy the All India Council for Technical Education Norms.
The present annual intake of three polytechnic College is 520. 50% seats are filled from public and the remaining 50% seats are filled from the children’s of transport employees who are members of the scheme.
