Jawahar Lal Nehru College was established in 1967 with affiliated college status. It has been converted into a constituent unit of Ranchi University, Ranchi with effect from 24.11.1980 and has been included by the University Grants Commission, New Delhi in the list of colleges under section 2(f) and 12(b) of the UGC Act. It is a multi faculty post graduate college with MCA and vocational subjects. Honours in all major traditional subjects of Science, Arts and Commerce are available in the college. Kolhan University, Chaibasa was established on 12th August, 2009. It is now the a constituent unit of Kolhan University. Father Dr. Beni Ekka had been appointed as the first Vice Chancellor of Kolhan University, Chaibasa. The first youth festival of Kolhan University, Chaibasa held in the year 2010. In this festival, J.L.N. College also won four first prizes. J.L.N. College also participated in cricket (men) and football (Women) in the chancellor’s trophy held in the month of March 2012 and April 2012 and got runner position in both event.
