r. Vijay Pal Memorial Libraries are being run by Dr. Vijay Pal Memorial Society, which is a charitable institution, registered under the Societies Registration Act and the Income Tax Act. Dr. Vijay Pal Memorial Society was established in the memory of Late Dr. Vijay Pal. Late Dr. Sahib Singh Verma nourished this institution from day one. Without his devoted efforts, this library concept would have remained only a dream. Dr. Vijay Pal Memorial Society is presently running two public libraries - a general library & a reference library. Both the libraries are open to all sections of the society. The General Library was started in the year 1975, and readers of all age groups make use of this library. The general library is situated on the first floor of the Community Hall in Block C-7, Keshavpuram, Delhi. This library comprises of a reading room and a library. In the reading room, we have for our readers all the leading national newspapers, periodicals and magazines, and anybody, without the necessity of becoming a member, can utilize its services. In this section, we subscribe to 16 daily national newspapers, 42 weekly/fortnightly/monthly magazines. In the library section, we have over 20,000 books on various subjects, including religion, fiction, commerce, economics, college text books, and books of the general interest. Books are lent to the members of the library for taking to their homes as is the case in other public libraries. The Reference Library was started on 11-4-1993. This air-conditioned library is located in our own building constructed by us on a plot allotted by the DDA to us at plot No. C-8, Local Shopping Centre, Block C-7, Keshavpuram, Delhi-110035. Presently, we are running the library in a basement of about 250 sq. yards area, on the ground floor area of about 200 sq. yards., and the first floor having an area of 250 sq. yds. We have presently a seating capacity of about 450 readers. The library opens from 7.30 AM to 9.30 PM on all days of the week and the seating capacity is generally full by 8.30 AM, with the result that many readers have to go back disappointed for want of seats. The readers are mostly the students appearing for competitive and professional examinations like IAS, IPC, Chartered Accountants, engineering, Company Secretaryship, Cost Accountancy, Medical, Banking, etc., and also college students. They come from different parts of the North Delhi, West Delhi and even from other far-flung areas. The readers are provided with books for reference in the library itself.
