This Lokanath Mohavidyalaya, Patkura was established on the 5th February 1976, the auspicious day of Sripanchami. It is a premier college completing 38 years in the district of Kendrapara, Odisha. It is located at about a distance of 65 kms towards the East of Cuttack, about 20 kms to the south of Kendrapara district headquarters and about 35 kms to the South-East of Paradip sea-port. Touching to its campus, there is Golakh Bihari Temple, just at a few distance, there is Suka Parikhit Ashram which has recently been enlisted as a tourists spot by the state Govt, the other focus of attention is Mahapurus Achutananda Monastery whose religious scriptures sunya sanghita, Haribansa, Sri Gurubhakti Gita, Anakar Sanghita, Gopala Ogala, Kaibarta Gita & others have enriched the history of Odia literature. The college presents a panoramic spectacle for its rural & agrarian settings. It is situated on the left-side bank of the river chitrotpala, one of the holiest puranic rivers next to the Ganga in its mythological status. Presently the college comes under the Garadpur Block and Tehsil under the revenue mouza of Korua and Haripur. So far as the year of establishment is concerned, the status of the college stands in order of No.3 after the district Headquarters' Kendrapara College and Pattamundai College in the district.
It was an adventurous journey to start a college in the remotest and inaccessible area being isolated from the district, the sub-division and even the block headquarters due to the ever flowing rivers of chitropala, Luna, Karandia, Paika and Mahanandi. The duo who did the pioneering work for establishing the college in such areas were sri Baishnab charan Nayak, the founder secretary, a social worker and Lt Chakradhar Satpathy, the founder president and former MLA, Patkura. By that time Sri Nayak was the Chairperson of Garadpur Panchayat Samittee, for which he could arrange the donations from the Primary Teachers of Garadpur Block & from the people of the nearby villages and Panchayats. Lt Ramanath Pattanaik and Aviram sahoo of Korua donated land for the initial start. The foundation stone was laid by Ankura Charan Jena, a scheduled caste member of this locality, so as to give out an impression that the college was of the poorest of the farming class people of the area.
Then came up a man who dominated the scene was Prahalad Mallick, the then MLA, Minister of the Govt of Odisha and President of the Governing Body. He played a crucial role in the G.B. of the college and gave a solid stand to it. The trail was followed by Bhagaban Nayak, Pyarimohan Samantraya IAS, Baishnab Charan Mohanty, Industrialist, Pravakar Pradhan, Joint Director, Bureau of Statistics, Bijay Mohapatra, MLA, Sri Hiranya Charan Mohanty, Educationist, Baishnab Charan Parida, Prof. of Economics in their capacities of President, Secretary and joint secretary of the G.B in different times. The trend-setters expected that this premier seat of learning would not only impart syllabus-based teaching but also would become a breeding ground of Patkura's future revolutionaries. The real objective of opening a college braving all the initial odds in those inhospitable days was to enlighten and awaken the posterity of Patkura.
Every great journey kicks off with small steps. The humble start fast grew up to be a monumental one within a couple of years beyond the starters' contemplations. The college with 167 students in yesterdays has now enrolled about 2000 students in different classes & has upheld 46 nos. of faculty and 29 nos of staff to its credit. From 1980-81 session, Intermediate in Science and intermediate in Commerce streams were opened, B.A. classes were started from the Academic session 1981-82, +3 Science and +3 Commerce classes were opened from 1990-91 and 1999-2000 sessions respectively.
