The centre has asked the state government to make yoga as a part of school syllabus for making the students to have and maintain a healthy mind and body. Shripad Yesso Naik, Minister of State for AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) said that the course would start from this academic year.
Naik said in Lok Sabha that the Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry has sent the letter to the states favoring adoption of yoga as part of the school syllabus so that those students who wished to enroll themselves could take it, though it will not be a compulsory subject. We have told them that whoever wants to do Yoga, they should be allowed to do Yoga. Otherwise physical training is adjusted in the same period," he said.
The minister said that the government has succeeded in adoption of June 21 as the International Day of Yoga. The first International Day of Yoga was celebrated in the country in a grand manner on June 21 2015, which was celebrated across the globe involving 192 countries. Arrangements for celebrating second International Day of Yoga on June 21, 2016 has also started.
