Higher education sector in the state should have a development plan (DP) similar to that for urban planning, said Vinod Tawde, Minister for Higher and Technical Education for Maharashtra.
He said the DP should be relevant to the market scenario and job opportunities, and so should be updated every five years or so.
This would ensure that the DP remains relevant from the perspective of both the students and the industry,” he said at the Higher Education Summit 2016, organised by Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) in Mumbai. He also said the new University Act, which is pending approval, will ensure better higher education in the state.
Lord Meghnad Desai, Emeritus Professor of Economics, London School of Economics, too, spoke at the summit. Panel discussions were held on ways to improve higher education.
Other panel members included Uday Salunkhe, co-chairman of CII WR Education and Group Director of Welingkar Institute of Management, and Sunil Khanna, chairman of CII Maharashtra State Council and president and MD, Emerson Network Power.
We will present a paper on the deliberations of the summit to the ministry of higher education,” said Vidula Kagal, executive officer, CII.
