Karnataka has got its first Indian Institute of Technology in Dharwad which scored over other cities in the state. The new IIT might start classes in 2016 at a transit campus states a report in The Hindu.
600 acres of land has already been identified for setting up the new IIT at Dharwad. According to the report, the transition campus may be at the Water and Land Management Institute (WALMI) premises as per Dharwad Deputy Commissioner P. Rajendra Cholan. For a full-fledged IIT to get up and running like in other states, it would take between five to seven years.
The state had recommended Dharwad, Raichur and Mysuru for an IIT. Arun Jaitley had announced an IIT for Dharwad in Budget address in March.
