Government of Andhra Pradesh has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the State Marine Technical University of Russia for promoting marine education and technology in the state. The MoU was signed by Chief Minister (CM) of Andhra Pradesh N. Chandrababu Naidu at St. Petersburg, Russia.
According to the statement issued by the government of Andhra Pradesh, the MoU will benefit the marine segment in India and Andhra Pradesh as the university works closely with companies like United Shipbuilding Corporation and Rosoboronexport, which are major defence companies specializing in marine systems and technology.
According to the president of United Shipbuilding Corporation, Rakhmanov Alexey, the proposal of making Andhra Pradesh as the headquarter of the company is under consideration as the state is unique with regard to marine activity.
CM Naidu said that, the ultimate aim of the state government is to promote inland navigation and commercial usage of water transport in the state given the fact that it is much cheaper as compared to the other modes of transport. According to CM Naidu, the initiatives that are being taken by the state government will ensure that in the coming years Andhra Pradesh becomes the logistics hub in India.
