“Kerala is on a par with the world when it comes to literacy, but the standard of education leaves much to be desired. Our children need to be acquainted with the modern education pattern,” said Labour Minister T.P. Ramakrishnan.
Launching ‘UL Guru’, the education platform powered by UL Technology Solutions and ULCCS Foundation in Kozhikode on Sunday, the Minister said the LDF government was keen on attaining international standards in primary and higher education. The government has set aside Rs.1,000 crore in the revised budget for the purpose, he said, adding that help from generous individuals and organisations would be accepted.
Speaking on the occasion, A. Pradeep Kumar, MLA, said ULCCS would take over the intellectual leadership in developing the Government Higher Secondary School at Karapparamba to international standards on the lines of the Government Vocational Higher Secondary School at Nadakkavu, which had been set as a model for the State.
“We need a permanent laboratory in Kozhikode for children. The laboratory will be set up at the Government Higher Secondary School at Karapparamba, which is under renovation. Karapparamba was chosen, as it is the home turf of ULCCS as well as social reformer Vagbhadananda after whom the laboratory will be named,” he said.
M.K. Muneer, MLA, who presided over the function, said there was a need to focus on improving the academic standards along with developing basic infrastructure. Calicut University Pro-Vice Chancellor P. Mohanan delivered the keynote address.
A workshop, ‘Converge 2016’, was held for students who had completed Standard X as the first programme of the UL Guru platform. Dean of the School of Management at Bennet University Saji Gopinath was the keynote speaker at the workshop, which had various sessions that were handled by Lajish V.L. of Calicut University, Sreejan S.V. of Government Higher Secondary School, Perambra, and Director of Entrepreneurship at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University T.P.
