Maharashtra government has decided to stop scholarship examinations for class 4th and 7th students, and instead conduct them for those studying in class 5th and 8th.

"The exam will be known as primary and secondary scholarship exam," state education minister Vinod Tawde said here. Details of exam structure would be published in December this year.

Maharashtra government provides scholarship to students of Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), Vimukt Jati Nomadic Tribes (VJNT) and Other Backward Classes (OBC) students every year.

However, there has been a delay in the disbursal of the amount for many years. Scholarship funds of Rs 700 crore are lying with government, yet to be disbursed, a fact admitted by the Human Resources Development minister.
