About Institution

The NSS College, Nilamel is one of the several colleges which came into existence as a result of the far-sighted vision of the late Padmabhooshan Bharatha Kesari Sri. Mannathu Padmanabhan, the Founder and Visionary of the Nair Service Society. This institution which owes its existence to the Nair Service Society started functioning in 1964 with the unstinting co-operation extended by the people of the locality. The college, situated on a lovely hummock surrounded by impressive natural landscape, is affiliated to the University of Kerala. It is located by the State Highway not far away from the historic Jadayu Rock (Chadayamangalam) mentioned in the epic The Ramayana. The college was upgrad ed in October 1969 with the introduction of Degree Courses in Mathematics, Botany, Zoology, Economics, History and Malayalam. The College also imparts instruction in Commerce at the Degree level. The college started providing Post Graduate course in Malayalam in 1995. The Degree courses in Biochemistry and Physics were introduced in 1998 and 1999 respectively. The BA Degree Course in English was introduced in 2001. The Department of Malayalam was recognized as a Research Centre of the University of Kerala in the year 2005.
