The University aims to emerge as the higher education hub in the eastern Himalayas in the next few years, focusing on both access to and quality of higher education at an affordable cost for the generally poor but deserving students of the region in general and Sikkim in particular. Sikkim University is currently located at Gangtok, the capital town of Sikkim. The University is at present operating from several hired buildings spread over 17 kms along the National Highway - 31A.
