About Institution

Education is the only elixir for the ills and evils of human society. Realizing the paramount importance of higher education, His Holiness Shree Shree Shree 1008 Srisaila Jagadguru Vageesh Panditharadya Shivacharya Mahaswamiji, the learned scholar, a religious leader freedom fighter and visionary founded our S.J.V.P.College in 1970, in the rural background. Since its inception
the college has been imparting quality higher education to rural youth belonging to all sections of the society. It has imparted education to nearly 50,000 students till now. After his Lingykaya from the material world Shree Umapathi Panditaradhya Shivacharya Mahaswamiji continued the spirit of education and contributed a lot in achieving the institutional objectives and to place the college on the top of the ladder of higher education.
The present President of Vidhyapeetha, His Holiness Sri Shree Shree Shree 1008 Srisaila Jagadguru Dr.Channasiddarama hivacharya Mahaswamiji, whose benign blessings and spiritual guidance is the breath of our institution; His Holiness shares the vision of the founder President and his successor. The present President of our institution, His Holiness Srisaila Jagadguru Dr.Channasiddarama Shivacharya Mahaswamiji is the major financial strength. The administrative activities are monitored and managed by the managing committee headed by the honorable Secretary .M S,.Basavarajaswamy, who is an
administrator and, a man of action and vision. His guidance and leadership has made the institution to achieve a commendable progress.
Considering the quality education of S.J.V.P.College, the Kuvempu University has granted Permanent affiliation during 1997-98. This permanent affiliation is being renewed once in five years and the status quo is maintained by the Davanagere University as our college now comes under the ambit of Davanagere University. Further, recognizing academic achievements of our college, NAAC accredited our college at Three Star Level during 2000-2001 and B++ in the year 2006-07 In addition to this, our college is approved under section 2(f) of the U.G.C. Act of 1956 dated 8th June 1988, and is also declared as eligible college to get required financial assistance under section 12(B) of U.G.C. Act 1956, dated 22nd February 2002. And, our college got Autonomous status on 26th September 2005 by U.G.C and same has been extended by the UGC in the year 2011-12.
Keeping in view the rural needs and on going global changes, our college offers updated and revised B.A., B.Sc., B.Com., B.B.M.,BCA and P.G. Studies in English, Kannada and Computer Science. The college has 21 departments of different subjects pertaining to Languages, Humanities, Science, Commerce and Management with an updated syllabus so as to enhance the employability of the students. In addition to this the college has self-financed courses like Biotechnology, Computer Science, Electronics, Education Journalism, Tourism, B.B.M, BCA, PG Courses and a certificate and Diploma course in various subjects.
Our college has a galaxy of highly qualified and rich experienced teachers consisting of PhD; M.Phil; NET; and SLET holders. The college has well trained, committed and experienced non-teaching faculty too.
The Principal, Prof.M.H.Beturmath is a Professor of Commerce, who is dynamic, experienced and committed to the cause of higher education.
The college has well-furnished classrooms and office accommodation. The library and the laboratories are well equipped. The Administrative machinery of the college has been computerized; Encouragement is given to curricular, co-curricular
and extra-curricular activities as a part of education through N.S.S.Units, Sportswing, Woman’s Exploitation Control Council, literary clubs and various faculty clubs.
The involvement and encouragement of our esteemed management in the overall development of the college, teachers care and concern for the students and discipline in the campus have contributed to the considerable increase in students’
strength. Right now, the college has 1069 students on the roll. The college has QAC and IQAC consisting of experts from different walks of life. As a result of Autonomy the college has its own Governing Body, Academic Council, Finance Committee, BOS and BOE. As there is an academic freedom the autonomy, we have framed our own Syllabi, keeping in view the regional needs. We have our own system of examination and evaluation in semester system examination in its right spirit. The students’ fraternity is mighty happy with the transparent system of examination. Our college has Karnataka
State Open University Study Centre and the Distance Education Centre of Kuvempu University. For all the academic activities, the financial support is equally important.
