Originally, the Institute was founded by HSNC Board in 1985 as an extension center of the Bombay Institute of Technology, Mumbai and was known as “Bombay Institute of Technology, Extension Ulhasnagar”. It was popularly known as “BIT”. In 1993, the Institute got the separate identity when ‘Bombay’ in the name of Institute was dropped and renamed as “Institute of Technology, Ulhasnagar”. In 2010, the Institute is again renamed as “Smt. S. H. Mansukhani Institute of Technology, Ulhasnagar”. The Institute started with two Engineering Diploma courses, Computer Technology and Digital Electronics. Taking into consideration, the development in Information Technology, the Institute started a three year Diploma course in Information Technology from the academic year 1998-99. This Institute is the FIRST POLYTECHNIC IN MAHARASHTRA to start a three-year Diploma course in Information Technology. From academic year 2001-02, the Diploma in Digital Electronics was replaced by Diploma in Electronics and Telecommunication Engineering.The Institute of Technology is an Engineering Polytechnic managed by HSNC Board. All courses conducted by the Institute are approved by All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi, recognized by Director of Technical Education (DTE), Maharashtra State and affiliated to Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE), Mumbai.
