History Of Uber Cup

The Uber Cup trophy was officially presented at the annual general meeting in 1956, the year the first Uber Cup tournament was first held.It was made by Mappin & Webb, prominent silversmiths on Regent Street in London. The trophy is 20 inches high with a rotating globe on top of a plinth and a female player standing on top of a shuttlecock.

The Uber Cup, sometimes called the World Team Championships for Women, is a major international badminton competition contested by women's national badminton teams. First held in 1956–1957 and contested at three year intervals, it has been contested every two years since 1984 when its scheduled times and venues were merged with those of Thomas Cup, the world men's team championship. The Uber Cup is named after a former British women's badminton player, Betty Uber, who in 1950 had the idea of hosting a women's event similar to that of the men .She also made the draw for the 1956–1957 inaugural tournament, which took place at Lytham St. Annes in Lancashire, England.

China national badminton team-13 (1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1998, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2012, 2014):

The China National Badminton Team represents the People's Republic of China in international badminton team competitions and is controlled by the Badminton Association of the People's Republic of China, the governing body for badminton in China.

China is the most successful badminton team in history, having won the Thomas Cup 9 times and the Uber Cup 13 times. China has also won more medals in badminton at the Olympics than any other country.

Japan national badminton team-5 (1966, 1969, 1972, 1978, 1981):

The 1966 Uber Cup was the fourth edition of the Uber Cup, the women's badminton team competition. The tournament took place in the 1965-66 badminton season, 17 countries competed. Japan won its first title in the Uber Cup, after beating defending champions United States in the Challenge Round.

The 1969 Uber Cup was the fifth edition of the Uber Cup, the women's badminton team competition. The tournament took place in the 1968-1969 badminton season, 18 countries competed. Japan won its second title in the Uber Cup, after beating the Indonesia team in the Final Round in Tokyo, Japan.

The 1972 Uber Cup was the fifth edition of the Uber Cup, the women's badminton team competition. The tournament took place in the 1971-1972 badminton season, 17 countries competed. Japan won its third title in the Uber Cup, after beating the Indonesia team 6-1 in the Final Round in Tokyo, Japan.

Indonesia national badminton team-3 (1975, 1994, 1996):

The Indonesia women's team has participated in Uber Cup 20 times, won the title 3 times and once failed to qualify in 2006. Indonesia has played in the decisive final tie on 10 occasions.

United States national badminton team-3 (1957, 1960, 1963):

The 1957 Uber Cup was the inaugural Uber Cup; a women's international team badminton championship promoted by Betty Uber. Eleven nations took part competing first (as in Thomas Cup competition) within zones to qualify for interzone matches. The final round was held in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire, England on 18 March 1957.The United States won the event, defeating Denmark.

The 1960 Uber Cup, held during the 1959-1960 badminton season, was the second edition of the women's international badminton championship. The ties (sets of matches) between zone winning nations took place in April 1960. Having won the previous tournament in 1957, the United States hosted the final round in Philadelphia.

The 1963 Uber Cup was the third edition of the Uber Cup, the women's badminton competition. The tournament took place in the 1962-63 badminton season, 11 countries competed. Defending champions the United States hosted the final and claimed victory over England — their third consecutive victory, out of three attempts in Uber Cup, largely on the strength of Judy Devlin once again winning all three of her matches.

Korea national badminton team-1 (2010):

The 2010 Thomas & Uber Cup was the 26th tournament of the Thomas Cup and 23rd tournament of the Uber Cup, the most important and most prestigious badminton tournaments in men's and women's team competition, respectively. The 2010 championships marked the Thomas & Uber Cup's 10 year return to Malaysia which has always seen great fan interest in the sport.
