Sree Siddaganga Gurukula has given special attention to the needs of children with deformities and especially to the Blind. In the premises of the Sree Siddaganga Mutt, on 1st August 1978 Dr. Sree Sree Sivakumar Swamiji started the Blind School . He sought the expert guidance for running the school effectively in order to meet the specific needs of the Visually handicapped children. For all of them free hostel facility is also provided with an independent building with facilities for the study, learning and work. The school offers education upto 7th Standard and also offers music and cane furniture building arts. Today the school has also acquired facilities for Braille script in terms of its learning and generation of products like books. It is being augmented with IT facilities like Computers with Braille Keyboards.
Karnataka Navachetan Residential School for the Blind is located in Kunigal was taken over by the Gurukula in the year 1999. This school has 50 blind children, both Boys and Girls, who are studying from 1st to 7th Standard. It has 4 adequately trained teachers and 5 Non-teaching staff. The school along with the primary education also offers, training in Music.
Board of IT Education Standards (BITES), Bangalore has announced the “Best Ph.D. Thesis Awards” for the year 2009.Dr. K.V. Suresh, Professor, Dept. of Electronics and Communication Engg. Is one of the two awardees.
