The glorious tradition of St. Aloysius Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School dates as long back as 1885 when a dedicated group of Presentation Sisters of the Blessed Virgin Mary, from Ireland, pioneered the task of education. The work they began almost 120 years ago, gradually took the shape of prestigious educational institutions in Chennai.
Beginning with just the children of the Parish School in 1885 at the Cotgrave Home on General Collins Road, it grew into St. Anne's School in 1889. In 1903, the School was deemed into a Second Grade College affiliated to the University of Madras. In the year 1909, it was recognized as a High School under the Code of Regulation for European Schools.
However, it was only in the year 1928, that it received its present name 'St. Aloysius'. It was then a High School with a full fledged boarding. St. Aloysius High School was known for its European manner of teaching with sound English language skills. It grew to be one of the foremost institutions of the city of Madras. All through the years, students have excelled academically, in sports activities and in vocational training. With a team of highly qualified staff we have embarked on, not only 'Information based education' but also 'Life oriented education' based on moral values and critical thought.
At the Primary level we seek to build a sound foundation and a concentration on communication skills. At the High School and Higher Secondary levels, we focus on social awareness and work towards the development of mature responsible young women. Into the future, our students will march forward, always brave and true, holding aloft the standard of their Alma Mater- 'the green and gold of St. Aloysius' bearing the motto: For Faith and Morals.
