About Institution

St. Basil College of Education for Women, Salem is one of the premier Educational Institutions in Salem Dist. established in the year 2007 recognized by the Government of TamilNadu and approved by the statutory body NCTE. The Parental University of our college was Periyar University. Then during the Academic year 2008-2009, the college was affiliated to TamilNadu Teachers Education University, Chennai with an intake of 100 students. The College owes its genesis and growth to the vibrant vision and pioneering leadership of Rev. Dr. S. Jayaraj Krishnan, the Chairman and Director of our college and other ICMC Educational Institutions. The college is situated in a conducive atmosphere under Yercaud hills.

One of our Vision Statements is aspiring to be the best of the best colleges of Education in TAMIL NADU TEACHERS EDUCATION UNIVERSITY. This is exemplified by the fact that in the year 2011-2012, by the Amazing grace of the Lord Almighty, our college has moved up to RANK NO.2 among more than 680 colleges of Education in Tamil Nadu. To be ranked one of Tamil Nadu’s finest Educational colleges year after year is no mean achievement. But to beat ourselves at our own game is an accomplishment that the college is proud of. As we have formulated a quality system for Education, the college has received the acclaimed ISI 9001/2000 certificate. The College provides student-teachers with an excellent quality of Education that kindles creativity, encourages innovation and instills strong ethical practices enabling them to develop as Excellent Teachers and to compete successfully in the global teaching arena.

This, in essence, is our Mission statement. The college has attracted highly qualified and motivated faculty. Since its inception, our college is blessed with an unbroken record of good results. Enthusiasm with hard work is the secret of Academic Excellence. The Academic year 2011-2012 proved yet another milestone in the history of the college when KRUPA SOPHIA LIVINGSTON notched up the II Top position in Tamil Nadu Teachers Education University. This rank was awarded at the state level. She was awarded Degree by His Excellency Thiru. Dr. K. ROSAIAH Honourable Governor of Tamil Nadu and Chancellor of TNTEU on 30.12.2012.

Every year our students are participating in curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Thus our college provides a platform for the students to exhibit their talents within the campus and outside the campus. For the past 3 years more than 50 students were selected in TRB, TET AND SET Examinations conducted by the Tamil Nadu Govt. and appointment in middle schools and high schools in and around Salem district.

Women’s empowerment is meaningless and will remain a theoretical concept unless economic freedom is enjoyed. A practical step in this direction is achieved by the placement cell of the college which ensures that the students get proper career counselling and openings for their talents. This is achieved by co-ordinating with various reputed Matriculation, CBSE and High and Hr.Sec. schools.
