About Institution

The Victoria Memorial School for the Blind (“The Trust”) is Public Charitable Trust set up in 1902. The principal object of the trust was” to ameliorate the condition of the blind and to make them feel that they are not quite helpless and hopeless by imparting to them instructions on the principles well known in the West for teaching such sightless persons and teaching them such domestic handicrafts which may enable them to earn a livelihood”. To achieve this object of the Trust, in 1904 it set up The Victoria Memorial School for the Blind (VMSB) for the education and rehabilitation of visually handicapped children. Since then VMSB has been continuously providing free education along with free lodging and boarding and other amenities for the welfare of the visually impaired blind boys. The school building won the HIS Heritage Award 1992. The school building also has won awards from the Indian Heritage Society-Urban Heritage Award for Renaissance Revival and in 2001for the Standard Chartered Conference Centre Housed on the ground floor of the building.
