Xu Youyu (born 1947), is a Chinese scholar in philosophy, public intellectual and proponent of Chinese liberalism.Xu was a teenage Red Guard at the time of the Chinese Cultural Revolution,a witness to the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989.He now works for the Institute of Philosophy of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences as a research fellow,and is an expert on western social theories including Marxism and the Frankfurt School.He is particularly noted as a historian of the Cultural Revolution.In 2014 Xu Youyu was conferred with the prestigious Sweden's Human rights Olof Palme Prize.
