In an awareness programme on 'IIT foundation course' for thestudents and parents in Vijaywada, Human Resource Development Minister GantaSrinivasa Rao said that the state government will take measures to introduceIIT foundation course in all the Zilla and Mandal Parishad High Schools acrossthe state from the next academic year.
Srinivasa Rao said that there are 1,500 municipal schools inthe state with an enrolment of 2.5 lakh students. Despite this, hardly anystudent from municipal schools topped in IIT or any other competitiveexamination. The percentage of students from municipal schools among them waszero due to lack of basic knowledge among them. Most of the corporate schoolshave started teaching the IIT basics from the sixth standard itself. So, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu hasinstructed the officials of education department to incorporate the IITfoundation course in the regular curriculum from the eighth standard inmunicipal schools in the last academic year.
The Minister stated that in the wake of huge response forthe IIT foundation course in municipal schools, the state government hasplanned to introduce the course in Zilla and Mandal Parishad high schools thatwill help the students in getting admissions at the IITs.
The Minister said that the government has decided to givemore importance over teacher's qualification and transfer would be done on thebasis of merit. The minister for Municipal Administration P Narayana said thatthe municipal school students were facing lots of difficulties in Intermediateand higher education due to lack of knowledge and communication skills.
"To overcome the problem, the state government hasintroduced IIT foundation course in municipal schools from Class VIII to ClassX," he added.
